Oral interview with Phil Pister, born January 15, 1929, in Stockton, California. Topics include Mr. Pister's education at UC Berkeley, backpacking experiences and recreation changes in the Eastern Sierra. Additionally he speaks to his years of employment as an aquatic biologist, with the California Department of Fish and Game, changes in local fisheries, the Mount Whitney Fish Hatchery, Owens Lake, and the presence of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in the Owens Valley. Also included is information on fish species, Golden Trout, Brook Trout, and Steelhead Trout, endangered species of the region, and the discovery and rehabilitation of the Death Valley Pupfish and Ash Meadows National Wildlife Program.
