Description

California Preservation Service (CAPS)
Fourth graders Joseph Sloggy and Sean Denny went on a hike through the Topanga Creek in July 1998 helping biologists search for steelhead trout. They were appalled by the collection of wrecked cars and other junk that had accumulated in the steep parts of the creek. They returned to school in September and convinced their teacher Ritesh Shah and their classmates that cleaning up the cars should be their community project for the year, which was how the Wrecked Car Removal Project got started in 1999. This image was provided by Rosi Dagit for inclusion in the Topanga Digital History collection.
