Description

California Audiovisual Preservation Project (CAVPP)
A disturbingly frank documentary on the vindictive treatment of gay men in California's correctional institutions, with emphasis on the """"psychiatrically-oriented"""" facility at Vacaville. The classification of different types of gay men within the prison, how a prisoner's homosexuality affects their chances for parole, and the relationship between prisons and the industrial sector in California are addressed. Includes interviews with Popeye Jackson of the United Prisoners Union and two Vacaville prisoners, Cowboy and Smitty. Produced by Philip Maldari of the Fruit Punch Collective for KPFA-FM. Technical production by Dean Okrand.
