California Audiovisual Preservation Project (CAVPP)
This documentary examines working conditions, alleged abuses, the role of the unions, the plight of undocumented workers, and other problems facing the garment industry in Los Angeles. Program features Mario Vazquez, international organizer for the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union (ILGWU); Bernard Brown, vice president of Koret of California; James Quillin, Labor Commissioner for the State of California; Blanca Hadar, Deputy City Attorney, Carl Villanoet[sp?], attorney with CASA-General Brotherhood of Workers; Julie Barker, managing editor of Western Apparel magazine; Teresa, a Mexican factory worker (translated by Vazquez); Sue Passler, associate editor of Western Apparel magazine; Leonard Levy, Vice President of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU); Sophie Silver, retired ILGWU member; and Joseph Dernitz, Deputy District Director of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
