Description
This hand-colored stereograph card features two nearly identical, side-by-side rectangular photographs with arched tops, mounted on a light-brown, pebble-textured cardboard backing. The image depicts the extensive ruins of a large, multi-story building featuring a prominent central tower topped with a gold-colored dome. The tower's masonry has been stripped away, exposing its dark, skeletal metal framework beneath the dome. In the foreground, a wide, debris-filled area is populated by several small figures in dark clothing and a single horse-drawn carriage. The surrounding building wings are reduced to hollowed-out stone shells under a pale, hazy sky. Small, light-colored text printed at the bottom right of the photographs reads: "No. 1010. San Francisco's Six-Million-Dollar City Hall, containing the Municipal Records wrecked by Earthquake.". Below the mounted stereograph, a gray and black color calibration scale is visible within the frame.
