Description
This hand-colored stereograph card features two nearly identical, side-by-side rectangular photographs with arched tops, mounted on a light-brown, pebble-textured cardboard backing. The image depicts a wide-angle view of a bustling waterfront plaza in front of a grand, multi-story terminal building characterized by a tall, central clock tower with a pointed spire. In the foreground, a large, open cobblestone area is filled with numerous figures in dark clothing, horse-drawn carriages, and several early-model streetcars. The surrounding cityscape shows the skeletal remains of buildings and debris, illustrating the aftermath of a disaster. Small, light-colored text printed at the bottom right of the photographs reads: "No. 1039. The Union Ferry Station showing Earthquake and Fire Devastated water front section of San Francisco.". Below the mounted stereograph, a gray and black color calibration scale is visible within the frame.
