Description
This hand-colored stereograph card features two nearly identical, side-by-side rectangular photographs with rounded corners, mounted on a light-brown, pebble-textured cardboard backing. The image presents an elevated panoramic view of a city landscape heavily damaged by fire and seismic activity. In the foreground, the ground is a mix of reddish-brown dirt and gray debris, with several dark, charred utility poles standing upright without wires. Beyond the immediate wreckage, the skeletal, multi-story remains of several large brick and stone buildings stand isolated against a hazy, pale blue and orange sky. Some trees with green foliage are visible on the far left and right edges of the frame, providing a contrast to the gray and brown tones of the central ruins. Small, light-colored text printed at the bottom right of the photographs reads: "No. 1045. The Ruin of San Francisco from California and Jones St., showing havoc by Earthquake and Fire." Below the mounted stereograph, a gray and black color calibration scale is visible within the frame.
