Description
This hand-colored stereograph card features two nearly identical, side-by-side rectangular photographs with rounded corners, mounted on a light-brown, pebble-textured cardboard backing. The image depicts a crowded relief camp where a long, narrow wooden table extends from the foreground into the center of the scene, flanked by a large group of people in dark clothing. Several figures stand behind the table, appearing to distribute items to the line of refugees. In the background, numerous vertical posts or pillars stand amidst a dirt-covered landscape, and the sky is a pale, hazy tone. Small, light-colored text printed at the bottom right of the photographs reads: "No. 1021. Jim Forrest's Camp, where 20 Tons of Provisions were distributed each day to the San Francisco Refugees.". Below the mounted stereograph, a gray and black color calibration scale is visible within the frame.
