Description
This hand-colored stereograph card features two nearly identical, side-by-side rectangular photographs with rounded corners, mounted on a light-brown, pebble-textured cardboard backing. The image shows a wide city street filled with figures in dark clothing walking amongst a landscape of significant architectural ruin. Dominating the center and right of the frame are the skeletal, fire-damaged remains of several multi-story buildings, including two tall, narrow structures with hollowed-out windows that stand like pillars against a pale, hazy sky. The ground is a uniform brownish-gray, covered in debris and dust. In the lower right corner of the photographs, small light-colored text reads: "No. 1006. Showing Devastation by Earthquake and Fire, Building containing the Municipal Records.". Below the mounted stereograph, a gray and black color calibration scale is visible within the frame.
