This black-and-white landscape photograph captures four people standing at the base of a massive sequoia tree in a dense forest. The group, consisting of three adults and one teenager, appears very small in scale against the enormous, vertically-fissured trunk of the central tree, which dominates the left-center of the frame and extends upward out of view. To the right of the main tree, other large trunks and smaller coniferous trees rise from a forest floor covered in low-lying vegetation and ferns. Light filters through the high canopy, creating high-contrast patches of bright sunlight and deep shadows across the textured bark and the surrounding woods.
