Description

This sepia-toned stereograph features two nearly identical photographs mounted side-by-side on a yellow card, depicting a narrow canyon landscape. The foreground is filled with dense, low-lying scrub brush and dry grasses. In the midground, a steep, rocky mountainside rises sharply on the left, characterized by craggy cliffs and sparse vegetation clinging to the slopes. To the right, another rugged hillside creates a V-shaped perspective that leads the eye toward more distant, shadowed mountain peaks in the background. The sky is a pale, clear tone. The card includes vertical printed text in the side margins: "UTAH SERIES." on the left and "Explorations West of the 100th Meridian. Expedition of 1872, Lieut. Geo. M. Wheeler, Com'dg." on the right. Small text at the bottom left attributes the photo to "W. Bell, Phot." while the bottom center contains the caption, "No. 6—Willow Creek Cañon, near Mt. Nebo." A grayscale calibration strip is visible along the top edge of the digital image, separate from the physical card.
