Description
This sepia-toned stereoview features two nearly identical, arched-top photographs mounted side-by-side on a light yellow rectangular card. The images provide a ground-level view from the base of a deep, narrow canyon with high, sheer rock walls. The left wall is dominated by a large, smooth, curved rock face with vertical streaks and segments of horizontal layering. The right wall is more jagged and textured, with smaller rock fragments and desert plants scattered along the sandy canyon floor in the foreground. A grayscale calibration strip is positioned along the top edge of the card. The left vertical margin of the card is printed with the text "COLORADO RIVER SERIES." The right vertical margin contains the text "Explorations West of the 100th Meridian. Expedition of 1872, Lieut. Geo. M. Wheeler, Com'dg." In the bottom margin, small text reads "W. Bell, Phot." on the left and "No. 42—Kanab Wash, Colorado Basin." in the center.
