Full titleR.M. Widney came to California in 1855. He was district judge in Southern California under the administration of Gov. Booth and was one of the promoters and trustees of the University of Southern California. He will long be remembered for his bravery and coolness during the Los Angeles Chinese Riot of 1871, being instrumental in checking the wholesale slaughter.
