Description

This sepia-toned stereograph depicts a tall, narrow waterfall cascading down a sheer, darkened rock face into a densely wooded valley. The image consists of two nearly identical photographs mounted side-by-side on an orange-colored cardstock. The waterfall, a thin white plume of water, drops vertically from the top left of the frame toward the rocky, tree-covered base. Tall, slender evergreen trees occupy the foreground and midground, partially obscuring the lower portion of the falls. Faint text is printed directly onto the bottom of the left photograph and vertically along the right margin of the card. The left side includes the words "American Scenery" printed vertically, while the right side identifies the photographer as "C. L. POND, BUFFALO, N. Y." A faint, handwritten or stamped caption at the bottom center of the left image reads, "Bridal Veil Fall, 940 feet high, Yo Semite Valley, California." The lighting creates a high contrast between the bright white water and the dark, textured shadows of the granite cliffs.
