Description

This sepia-toned stereograph features two nearly identical photographs mounted side-by-side on a rounded, orange-colored cardstock. The central scene depicts a large, hollowed-out fallen sequoia tree trunk lying horizontally across a forested area. A person is visible standing at the opening of the hollowed trunk, and several tall, thin evergreen trees rise in the background. The orange mount includes vertical text on the left margin that reads "AMERICAN SCENERY" and "PHOTOGRAPHED BY," while the right margin reads "C. L. POND, BUFFALO, N. Y.". At the bottom center of the mount, a printed caption in orange text reads: "696—Fallen tree Father of the Forest, circumference 112 feet. Mammoth Trees of Calaveras Co., California.".
