This sepia-toned stereographic card features two side-by-side, nearly identical photographs of the interior of a factory or warehouse. Several workers are seated at long worktables or atop large piles of folded fabric sacks that fill the center and background of the room. The workers are engaged in manual labor, likely sewing or sorting the sacks. The room has high ceilings with exposed wooden beams and large, dark shapes—possibly more bundles of material—hanging or stacked along the back wall. The photographs are mounted on a yellow rectangular card with rounded corners. Printed vertically in black serif type along the left margin is the text "BAY OF SAN FRANCISCO. Illustrated by MUYBRIDGE. Published by BRADLEY & RULOFSON." The same text, "BAY OF SAN FRANCISCO. Illustrated by MUYBRIDGE. Published by BRADLEY & RULOFSON.", is printed vertically along the right margin. A small caption printed at the bottom center of the images reads "California Standard Sack Co., 36 Clay Street." Below the photograph, a gray-scale calibration strip with labeled shaded blocks is visible.
