Description
This sepia-toned stereographic card features two side-by-side, nearly identical photographs of a grand, four-story Victorian-style commercial building. The facade is highly ornate, characterized by rows of arched windows with prominent keystones, decorative cornices, and a series of classical columns or pilasters between the window bays. Several individuals in 19th-century clothing are visible on the sidewalk in front of the building, and a horse-drawn carriage is parked near the curb. The photographs are mounted on a yellow rectangular card with rounded corners. Printed vertically in black serif type along the left margin is the text "PHOTOGRAPHIC ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE PACIFIC COAST." and on the right margin, the vertical text reads "HELIOS' FLYING STUDIO, CELEBRATED FOR AMERICAN VIEWS." At the bottom center, a printed caption reads "Le Count Bros. & Mansur's Stationery Establishment, 417 & 419 Montgomery St." Below the photograph, a gray-scale calibration strip with labeled shaded blocks is visible.
