Description
This sepia-toned stereographic card features two side-by-side, nearly identical photographs of several thick metal rods or bars that have been twisted and knotted to demonstrate their flexibility. In each image, three distinct pieces of metal are displayed against a light-colored, textured wall. One rod is tied into a tight overhand knot, another is coiled into a circular loop, and a third is bent into a series of fluid, overlapping curves. Small printed labels are attached to the wall behind the metal; one clearly reads "BENT COLD." below a photograph of a factory building. The photographs are mounted on a yellow rectangular card with rounded corners. Printed vertically in black serif type along the left margin is the text "SAN FRANCISCO. ILLUSTRATED BY EDW. J. MUYBRIDGE." and the same text, "SAN FRANCISCO. ILLUSTRATED BY EDW. J. MUYBRIDGE.", is printed vertically along the right margin. At the bottom center, a small printed caption reads "Pacific Rolling Mills." Below the photograph, a gray-scale calibration strip with labeled shaded blocks is visible.
