Description

This sepia-toned, nineteenth-century photograph provides a wide, elevated view of a vast, open landscape featuring a small settlement in the distance. The foreground consists of a large, dry field with sparse, low-lying vegetation and dark, scattered debris or rocks. In the middle ground, a cluster of small, light-colored buildings is situated at the base of a range of rolling, dark hills that stretch across the horizon. The sky is a uniform, pale tone. The photograph has rounded top corners and is mounted on a light-colored card. A vertical "KODAK GRAY SCALE" strip and a ruler are positioned along the left edge of the image for scale and color reference. At the top center of the photograph, the words "Princeton West" are written in a small, faint, handwritten script.
