Description

A sepia-toned, horizontal landscape photograph from 1860 captures a two-story wooden building identified by a sign on its roof as "OSO HOUSE." The structure features a wide, covered porch on the ground floor and a balconied veranda on the second floor, supported by white columns. A large, dark-colored horse-drawn stagecoach sits in the center foreground, with several people seated on its roof and a driver holding the reins of a team of horses. Numerous men in 19th-century attire, including hats and coats, are positioned across the scene: some stand in a row along the ground-floor porch, others lean against the second-story railing, and a few stand near the coach. To the right of the building, a smaller structure displays a sign for "WELLS FARGO & CO." A tall, leafless tree stands to the right of the hotel, and the ground in the foreground is flat, light-colored dirt. A vertical "KODAK GRAY SCALE" and a "TIFFEN" color control patch are visible along the left edge of the photograph.
