Full titleAugust 9/28. The Pioneer Saloon N. E. corner Main and Jackson Sts. Columbia Tuolumne Co. Calif. The Bret Harte trail passes the door. Gold discovered near the Bell Quarry in 1850. In six weeks after gold was found the town's population increased to 6000, at one time there was 143 Faro Banks running in this Saloon with a capitol of One Million Dollars. The population in the early days was said to be over 35000.
