Frederick "Fritz" Louis Maytag III was born in December 1937 in Newton, Iowa. He is the great grandson of Maytag Corporation founder Federick Louis Maytag and son of Maytag Dairy Farms founder Frederick Louis Maytag II. After attending Standford University, Maytag bought Anchor Brewing Company in 1965. He owned and operated the company from 1965 – 2010. He won a James Beard Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008 for his work at Anchor.
