Louise Renne is a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (1978–1986), former San Francisco City Attorney (1986–2002), former General Counsel for San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), and the founding partner of Renne Public Law Group. Renne was born in 1937 and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1958 and Columbia Law School in 1961. Renne began her legal career in the Federal Communications Commission and as a deputy attorney general for the State of California. She served as a San Francisco Supervisor in the immediate aftermath of the assassinations of George Moscone and Harvey Milk. Under her management, the City Attorney's Office expanded to include an affirmative litigation unit to pursue public interest cases, such as lawsuits against Philip Morris and "Joe Camel."
