Rev. Janet Wolfe is a retired Presbyterian minister, as well as an activist in the civil rights movement. Wolfe was born in Greeley, Colorado, in 1940. She attended Colorado State University; University of Colorado, Boulder; San Francisco Theological Seminary; and The Graduate Theological Union. Wolfe participated in the 1965 Selma-Montgomery March, as well as served in Alabama as part of the 1965 Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Summer Community Organization on Political Education (SCOPE) Project. In this interview, Wolfe discusses growing up in Greeley; family background and values; early education; education and work history; importance of music in life; impact of religious calling on life; political activism, including attending the Selma-Montgomery March and work on the SCOPE Project; changing roles of women and gay pastors in the Presbyterian Church; service as pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Arpin, Wisconsin, 1991-2005; lifelong interest in social justice; legacy and future of the civil rights movement; and personal legacy.
