Bavarian topographic map series initially issued by the General staff of the Bavarian Army. Beginning in 1930 sheets of this series were issued by the Bavarian State Survey.
Relief shown by contours, hachures, shading and spot heights. Most sheets lack map series title. Each sheet individually titled with place name: Neumark i.d.OPf. (west) 1875, sheet 41 -- Neumark i.d.OPf. (ost) 1875, sheet 41 -- Regensburg (ost) 1872, sheet 48 -- Zwiesel (west) 1870, sheet 50. Some sheets overprinted with red military grid. Work on sheets of this topographic map series started in 1812, but a first edition was only published in 1867 as Topographischer Atlas des Königreiches Bayern. Beginning in 1870 work on a second compilation of half sheets got underway. In 1930 the Topographisches Bureau was reorganized as Topographische Zweigstelle and administratively subordinated to the Bayerisches Landesvermessungsamt, which continued to issue sheets of this series. From 1938 to 1945 sheets were issued by a regional surveying office of the Reichsamt für Landesaufnahme, Hauptvermessungsabteilung XIII, München. The Bayerisches Landesvermessungsamt was reestablished after the collapse of the Nazi regime and issued sheets of this topographic map series until about 1955, when the German state surveys agreed to publish a new map series with standardized features, the Topographische Karte 1:50 000 (TK 50). Various issues of sheets exist. Publication and production statements vary: Bearbeitet in dem Topographischen Bureau des K.B. General Stabes -- Herausgegeben vom Bayer. Landesvermessungsamt -- Herausgegeben von der Hauptvermessungsabteilung XIII, München.
