New Testament, including calendar, prologue, and Old Testament lessons. This manuscript is the translation of John Purvey, a follower of John Wycliffe. Missing last folio; fol. 135 is an early replacement for a missing page, and the upper right hand quarter of fol. 212 is a late replacement of a torn corner. Marginal symbols indicate beginning and ending of cyclical readings; some contemporary marginal corrections.

Collation: Parchment, fol. i + 261 + i; 1⁶ (missing first fol.) 2-17⁸ 18⁶ 19-33⁸ 34⁴ ( -1); quires of the calendar are unsigned; quires of the Bible are signed a-z (with the sequence o-p-q repeated); catchwords in decorative frames at end of quire.
Layout: 2 columns of 32-34 lines per page; frame-ruled in ink with double lines at top, bottom, and margins for running title and marginal finding aids. Some prickings visible.
Script: Gothic script, with addition of Anglo-Saxon letter thorn.
Decoration: 14 7- to- 8-line illuminated initials on square gold ground with full borders with gold decoration; 13 6- to 8-line parti-colored blue and red initials with full borders of red and blue pen-flourishing; 3-line initials in alternating blue and gold with red or lavender. Many initials rubbed.
Binding: English tan calf, 16th century; narrow band borders of black and white enamel pigment within gold rules; inner panel with central medallion, all in gilt with enamel pigment scrollwork; two side clasps catching in back. Title on spine: "M.S. New Testam. & Lessons out of the Old Testament. Helmingham." Binding attributed to the "Morocco binder;" see Nixon, H.M. "Elizabethan gold-tooled bindings." Here bigynen the lessons and pistlis of the olde lawe that ben red in the chirche in al the yeer and here bigyneth the first Fridai pistil in advent Isai[e?] li chapter. [text] The Lord God seith these thingis herith me ye that s[u?]en that [p?]atis just[itia?] and seken the Lord ... Lord we han knowe oure unfeithfulnessis and the wickidnessis of oure fadris; for we han suned to thee and [th?]e[u?]e thou [last fol. missing]."
