Case Study: Smart City Kochi SmartCity Kochi is a project of TECOM investments (SmartCity Dubai) in association with the State Government of Kerala in India. The project marks the next step in the evolution of an international brand of IT Campus projects focused on creating high-quality workplaces for international knowledge industries. In Kochi, Smart City is located on a one square kilometer riverfront site with some extreme topography and some extreme environmental challenges. By definition, sustainable design is a central theme in the planning and design of the site, in keeping with the brand name “SmartCity”, and its international profile and appeal. Robert Marshall, Global Director of Planning & Landscape for B+H Architects, has been leading the design and planning of the SmartCity Kochi project and will discuss some of the challenges, issues and opportunities associated with the design of a sustainable high-tech campus in southwest India. Principal B+H Architects | Global Director B+H Planning & Landscape Robert Marshall joined B+H Architects in 2011 as the Global Director of the firm’s newly-expanded planning, urban design and landscape architecture practice. Prior to joining B+H, Robert was Director of Planning for HOK, leading their Canadian and Middle Eastern planning operations for 15 years, and in total has more than 25 years of experience providing design consulting services for clients throughout the world. Robert has created master plans for new cities in the Middle East, North Africa, India and Asia, as well as large private strategic development plans throughout these regions. He has also worked on regeneration plans and resort plans in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. His North American work includes a variety of master plans, campus developments and public facility developments throughout the United States and Canada
