Description
Fall 2014 Howard Friedman Visiting Associate Professor of Practice, Mark Smout, will be joining us to discuss the work and practice of Smout Allen. Smout Allen's work takes two routes, architectural competitions, where the particular rigour of the competition brief, site and program provide the basis for new investigations and, conceptual design projects which test out the agenda and methodology of the design research practice. Smout Allen focuses on the dynamic relationship between the natural and the man made and how this can be revealed to enhance the experience of the architectural landscape. Mark Smout is Senior Lecturer, with Laura Allen, at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. This lecture is sponsored by the Howard Friedman Endowment and the Department of Architecture, UC Berkeley.
