Description
To kick off The Fall Institute of Urban and Regional Development (IURD) Lecture Series, DeVone Boggan, the Founder and CEO of Advance Peace and the former Neighborhood Safety Director and Founding Director of the Office of Neighborhood Safety for the City of Richmond, will give a lecture "Advance Peace through Transformative Life Opportunities." Mr. Boggan will talk about his vision for, and approach to, ensuring healthier and safer urban neighborhoods historically and currently besieged by epidemic rates of gun violence. Advance Peace is a start-up social enterprise that works to disrupt cyclical and retaliatory urban gun violence in urban communities by providing those at the center of gun violence hostilities with transformative life opportunities. DeVone will share the impact of this work in Richmond, California where he created the Richmond Fellowship Model while serving as Neighborhood Safety Director. Advance Peace will replicate and maximize the social impact of the Richmond Fellowship Model nationally. Mr. Boggan, and the work of Advance Peace, have been featured on ABC's Nightline and on Nation Swell. He also authored an Op-Ed for the New York Times.
