"Urban design is all about managing a certain chaos" Christiaanse, a native of the Netherlands, started his career with OMA in Rotterdam, then founded his own office, Kees Christiaanse Architects & Planners, now located in Rotterdam, Shanghai and Zurich. Since 2003 he has been a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at ETH Zurich. He now heads the ETH Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore and leads the Urban Design Strategies and Resources module. Kees specializes in urban assignments in complex situations and guiding urban processes. He has completed numerous large scale projects, including airports, university campuses and in the revitalisation of former industrial, railway and harbour areas. His recent research focuses on Singapore and Indonesian cities.
