Description

Bart Brands, Principal Karres en Brands The Netherlands is almost completely a product of engineering. Water, and the act of land reclamation from the sea, has led to a completely different relation between man and landscape. Nature is often not a given sublime beauty, but something man-made after centuries of fighting the waters. The act of shaping and designing the land always had more than just a beauty element; it was first and foremost functional. Landscape architecture is therefore deeply embedded in the Dutch DNA and this heritage gave way for a different approach to landscape architecture. By means of a few representative projects of karres+brands, this Dutch approach to landscape design will be highlighted.
