Joan Suzio was born in Oakland, California in 1946. She moved to Pennsylvania when she was eight years old and returned two years later to California with her family. She is a longtime East Bay Reginal Park District employee who got her start working as park ranger in Lake Temescal. In this interview, Suzio discusses her early life, family, education, jobs before the district, getting hired at the district, moving up the ranks to supervisor, gender dynamics within the district, various project she worked on during her tenure, decision to retire in 2008, and her legacy with the district.
