Description

Shirley Nootbaar is an artist and third generation Californian, who documented the now defunct Buckeye Ranch in the late 1960s & early 1970s through her paintings. An advocate for the preservation of California's open spaces and ranch land, Nootbaar was an active member of a concerned group of Lafayette denizens that tried to save Buckeye Ranch from development in the 1970s. Although the local group's campaign was unsuccessful, their work piqued the interest of the EBRPD, which years later would purchase and preserve the land that is part of Briones Regional Park.
