Ron Batteate is a native Californian who was born in 1955 and raised in Castro Valley. He is a fourth-generation rancher whose family owned a cattle-hauling business. He sold his land to the East Bay Regional Park District, but continues to rent grasslands in Morgan Territory from them to graze his cattle. In this interview, Batteate discusses his early life, family and their history in cattle ranching, his experience raising cattle, connection to the East Bay and Morgan Territory, relationship with the East Bay Regional Park District, and his hopes for the future of the cattle business.
