Granted by Figueroa Feb. 3, 1834, to Carlos Castro; 2 leagues, by name, but 4 leagues were measured. Claim filed by Daniel Murphy, Bernard Murphy, later joined by James Murphy and Martin J.C. Murphy Feb. 9, 1852, for 4 leagues. Confirmed by the Board Aug. 22, 1854. Confirmed by the District Court Oct. 22, 1855, and Nov. 27, 1863. Appeal dismissed by the Supreme Court Mar. 15, 1864, by mandate. Patent issued to James and Martin Murphy Mar. 19, 1868, for 22,283.24 acres. The patent is recorded in San Jose, Santa Clara County. No. 226 General Land Office map. Castro had been in possession of the land since 1828 and had made two attempts to secure a grant of the rancho. The rancho was also known as Las Llagas. Bowman, J.N.
