Founded by Neve Nov. 29, 1777; 42.39 leagues, by description. Alvarado ordered the measurement of the lands Dec. 24, 1838. Claim filed by the City of San José July 14, 1852. Confirmed by the Board Feb. 5, 1856, for 4 leagues. Confirmed by the District Court Aug. 6, 1857, Nov. 26, 1859, and June 13, 1866, for the full grant of about 38 leagues. Appeal dismissed by the Supreme Court Feb. 5, 1864, by mandate, and the survey approved Apl. 3, 1866, also by mandate. Patent issued to the City of San José June 4, 1884, for 55,891.77 acres; this was the area remaining of the original boundaries after deducting the grants made and claimed within the pueblo lands. The patent is recorded in San José, Santa Clara County. No. 179 General Land Office map. Bowman, J.N.
