Description

Case file for United States vs. Juan C. Galindo, Mission Santa Clara, part of [Santa Clara County]. Includes transcript of the proceedings and related documents.
Granted by Jose Maria del Refugio S. del Real, a priest, June 10, 1846, to Juan C. Galindo; about 3,835 acres, by description, based on the payment of $100 and 100 head of cattle. Claim filed by Juan C. Galindo Aug. 31, 1852. Rejected by the Board June 12, 1855. Rejected by the District Court July 30, 1863, because a priest had no authority to make such a grant. Appeal dismissed and case remanded by the Supreme Court Oct. 22, 1869, by mandate. Galindo attempted to secure a grant from Micheltorena but failed because of the unsettled political conditions.
