Note
Photograph taken by Ellis Black Hayes. Written on the back of the photograph: Hacienda Santa Ana. The Hacienda is a very old one- contains two immense patios and a large corral which has held 350 horses. About 200 people lived in this hacienda-each family having separate rooms. The picture is of the American's quarters- in one of the patios. All of this part of the hacienda, eleven rooms in all, was dynamited and destroyed by Villa in the latter part of 1915. He tried to dynamite the whole hacienda, but his supply was not big enough, so destroyed the American part.
