Description

This monochrome artotype from 1887 captures a large, multi-story Victorian mansion situated on a street corner. The residence features intricate architectural details including a prominent cylindrical tower with a conical roof on the left, several gabled rooflines, and decorative masonry. Tall, ornate chimneys rise above the roofline, and a wrap-around porch with arched entryways sits at the ground level. A dark wooden or wrought-iron fence borders the property along the sidewalk. In the foreground, the paved intersection is visible Bare trees stand along the sidewalk, and a neighboring building is partially visible in the distance to the right. Faint text printed along the top edge of the image reads, "Artotype, No. 4," "BANCROFT LIBRARY," and "With 'S. F. News Letter,' April 9th, 1887."
