Description
This monochrome artotype from 1888 shows a large, ornate Victorian mansion with multiple stories and a complex roofline. The residence features numerous gabled peaks, decorative chimneys, and bay windows. Ornate trim and patterned shingles decorate the upper levels, while the ground floor includes a variety of tall, narrow windows. A dark wooden or wrought-iron fence runs along the sidewalk in front of the property, which is situated on a paved street corner. Several young, thin trees are planted at intervals along the sidewalk. In the background to the left, a tall, narrow building is visible. Text printed along the upper edge of the photograph reads, "Artotype No. 69. BANCROFT LIBRARY" and "With 'S. F. News Letter,' May 5th, 1888."
