Description

This monochrome artotype from 1887 shows a large, three-story Victorian mansion with a complex architectural profile. The residence features a variety of roof styles, including a tall, truncated pyramidal roof over a central section and several gabled peaks with decorative trim. A prominent cylindrical tower with a conical roof and a small top finial is visible on the left side of the structure. The second story includes bay windows and arched window frames. Small, young trees are planted at regular intervals along the street in the foreground. A vertical grayscale color calibration strip is positioned along the right edge of the photograph. Text printed along the upper margin of the image reads, "Artotype No. 10. BANCROFT LIBRARY" and "With 'S. F. News Letter,' May 21st, 1887."
