Description

This monochrome artotype from 1887 shows a massive, multi-story Victorian mansion with extensive architectural ornamentation. The residence features a complex roofline with multiple gables, decorative masonry chimneys, and a prominent square central tower. The facade is composed of several tiered levels with arched windows, balustrades, and intricate carvings. A large, stone-pillared entrance is visible at the ground level, and a dark, ornate fence borders the property along the street. In the foreground, a paved street with early infrastructure, such as utility poles and wires, runs alongside the property. A vertical grayscale color calibration strip is positioned along the right edge of the photograph. Text printed along the upper margin of the image reads, "Artotype No. 6. BANCROFT LIBRARY" and "With 'S. F. News Letter,' April 23d, 1887".
