Description

This monochrome artotype from 1888 features a multi-story Victorian mansion with a complex and highly textured facade. The residence is characterized by a prominent central gable with decorative lattice-work and dark trim, flanked by a tall, cylindrical tower with a conical roof on the right. Multiple ornate masonry chimneys rise from the roofline. A covered porch with arched entryways and a spindled railing is visible at the ground level. Several young, thin trees are planted at intervals along the street in the foreground, and a neighboring building is partially visible to the left. Faint text printed along the upper margin of the image reads, "Artotype No. 60. BANCROFT LIBRARY" and "With 'S. F. News Letter,' March 3d, 1888".
