Georgie Kunkel was born and grew up during the twenties and thirties in Chehalis, Washington, where her mother was the county superintendent. Kunkel worked in aircraft construction for Boeing and for the Federal Housing Administration in the summers during World War II. Kunkel and her husband both became teachers, and she later gave talks as a prominent feminist speaker in the 1980s. In her eighties, Kunkel began her career as a comedian. In this interview, Kunkel discusses her childhood in Chehalis, her work during the war, her later teaching career, women’s rights activism, and her experience as a Rosie.
