Letterina Iannacone was born in 1922 and grew up in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania. She was born to an immigrant family from Italy and spent much of her childhood involved in music and singing. During World War II, she took the written entrance exam to become a Navy yard riveter in Philadelphia, where she worked until she became pregnant with her first child. Later, Iannacone took a job at the Lord Jeff’s sweater mill in Williamstown. In this interview, Iannacone discusses growing up in an ethnically diverse region of Philadelphia, work and daily life during the war, her career after the war, and her perspective on Rosie the Riveter work.
