Norman Ishimoto was born in 1948 in Washington, DC. He is Sansei and was raised by Nisei parents, who were interned during World War II. Later, his family moved to California in 1972, where he attended college at San Jose State after transferring from the University of Maryland. Continuing his family’s legacy of public service, he joined the US Civil Service Commission. He became an EEO (equal employment opportunity) officer at the Presidio’s Letterman Army Medical Center. In this interview, Ishimoto discusses his family’s history, his early life and education, his work in public service, and work as an EEO at Letterman.
