Description

Nathan Oliveira (1928-2010), was born in Oakland, California. His father was an immigrant from Madeira; his grandfather on his mother’s side was born in Lisbon; and a great-grandfather come from the Azores. After earning a Master of Fine Arts degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, he taught there and then at the San Francisco Art Institute. From 1964 to his retirement in 1995 he taught painting and printmaking at Stanford University. He was the recipient of many awards, including the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator. His work has been included in numerous international exhibitions, and is found in hundreds of major collections and museums. [Dontaed]
