Description
Kevin Nix was Communications Director at Freedom to Marry. Nix was born and raised in Texas and earned his undergraduate degree from Tulane in New Orleans. He quickly became interested in political communications and worked for a number of candidates, first for Republicans then for Democrats. He worked on the communications team for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network and then for the Human Rights Campaign, ultimately becoming Communications Director for Freedom to Marry. In this interview, Nix discusses the major LGBT rights issues of the day – ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and winning the freedom to marry – from the vantage point of media, public relations, and communications, describing how media strategy contributed to victories in both campaigns.
