Amanda McLain-Snipes was the Campaign Manager for “Southerners for the Freedom to Marry.” McLain-Snipes was born and raised in Oklahoma and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Central Oklahoma. She got her start in politics by working for a number of progressive candidates for office in Oklahoma and Colorado. In 2014 she began working for the Equality Network and became the manager of Freedom to Marry’s “Southerners for the Freedom to Marry” public education campaign. In this interview, McLain-Snipes discusses organizing Oklahoma, Texas, and the Deep South in preparation for the legal extension of marriage to same-sex couples in those states.
