Sean Eldridge was Communications Director (2010) and Political Director (2011) for Freedom to Marry. Eldridge was born in 1986 in Montreal, Canada, and raised in the state of Ohio. Eldridge became active in the campaign to win marriage for same-sex couples after the New York state legislature voted down a law that would have granted the freedom to marry. After that election, he joined Freedom to Marry first as director of communications and then as political director. In this interview, Eldridge discussed the successful effort to win marriage in New York in 2011, engagement with President’s Obama team in advance of his declared support in 2012, and thoughts on what donors seek when funding social change organizations.
